Abstract

The objective of this article is to analyze domestic and family violence against women as a social, economic, and cultural problem. It started from the Marxist vision about the division of social classes, which is the basis for the oppression and economic exploitation of certain categories over others. Through theoretical discussion and secondary sources, the social-economic role, the division of labor, and domestic duties as a form of symbolic violence against women were analyzed. Thus, initiatives for the creation of public policies were presented, fundamental to the process of re-signification of social roles in order to propitiate gender equality.
